Sioux Lookout residents will have an opportunity on Jan. 7 to hear from the four candidates running for the vacant Councillor-at-Large position at the Sioux Lookout municipal council table.
Coordinated by Sioux Lookout resident Anne Saltel, the Sioux Lookout All Candidates’ Forum for Councillor at Large will take place in the Upper Legion Hall from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Candidates Connor Howie, Darlene Angeconeb, and Michael Quince have confirmed their attendance. Saltel said candidate Nick Costello had a conflict in his schedule, which he is hoping to resolve so he too can attend.
The forum, to be moderated by Sioux Lookout resident Dick MacKenzie, will provide candidates an opportunity to make opening and closing remarks. Residents will have an opportunity to write out questions for the candidates, which will be drawn at random.
The event will be livestreamed by the Sioux Lookout Public Library, who will also host the video of the forum on their YouTube channel.
Saltel said her decision to coordinate the forum comes from a desire to hear from the candidates and allow community members an opportunity to question the candidates.
The forum will start promptly at 6 p.m., so Saltel is asking people to begin arriving at 5:30 p.m.
“I thank the Legion. They are donating the hall for this so we will be asking people to contribute to the Legion,” she said, adding she encourages people to vote in the by-election.
The candidate that is voted in will fill the vacant Councillor-at-Large seat for the remainder of Council’s 2018-2022 term. The voting period will take place in January, commencing on Monday, January 20 at 8:00 a.m. and will run to January 27 at 8:00 p.m. The by-election is being conducted through internet and telephone voting.
