Altercation on Front Street leaves one man dead, another facing second degree murder charge

A 22 year old Sioux Lookout man is dead and another Sioux Lookout man, 34, has been arrested and charged with second degree murder following an incident which occurred in the early morning hours of August 31 in Sioux Lookout’s downtown.
After being notified of a physical altercation by a 911 call, police investigated the incident, which occurred on Front Street at approximately 2:30 a.m.
Skylar Meshake, 22, was transported to hospital by the North West Emergency Medical Services (NWEMS) where he succumbed to his injuries.
Front Street was closed to public and vehicle access between Fourth Avenue and Sixth Avenue while police investigated.
As a result of that investigation, Felix Wesley, 34, was arrested by police at a residence on Seventh Avenue and charged with second degree murder. Police confirmed he is being held in custody.
Wesley was sentenced to seven years custody for manslaughter in 2012.
Residents of the community expressed shock on social media following the incident.
Members of the OPP North West Region Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Services, under the direction of Detective Staff Sergeant Kevin Veillieux of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.

As of Monday morning (September 9) no further details had been released.
