Alvin Fiddler to once again be NAN Grand Chief

Alvin Fiddler will once again be Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) Grand Chief.
NAN shared on its website on July 8 that, “Head Electoral Officer Audrey Gilbeau has received and verified nominations for the 2023 by-election for the position of Grand Chief of Nishnawbe Aski Nation.
“As per the Notice of NAN By-Election for the position of Grand Chief to take place on August 16, 2023, at the 41st Annual Keewaywin Conference, the deadline for nominations was July 7, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. (EST).
“As of 12:01 a.m. (EST), on July 8, 2023, one nomination was received for the position of Grand Chief for a candidate who met all requirements as per Section 4.1 of the NAN Election Procedures.
“The candidate’s name is Mr. Alvin Fiddler, of Muskrat Dam First Nation.
“In accordance with NAN Election Procedures, this candidate will be acclaimed by resolution on August 16, 2023, during this year’s Keewaywin Conference (August 15-17, 2023) in Thunder Bay.”
Fiddler was NAN Grand Chief from 2015 to 2021.
