Anglers and Hunters celebrate archery range year end

The Sioux Lookout Anglers and Hunters (SLAH) held their archery range year end wind up/member appreciation barbeque on Sunday, October 3. The event ran through the afternoon from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the archery range.
SLAH President Jeremy Funk had this to say about the day’s events, “We had about 30 some odd members come out, we had a variety of games, had lots of laughs, a barbeque lunch, and gave away some prizes to appreciate our members coming out all year.”
By all accounts the event was a success, with many members taking to SLAH’s Facebook page to commend the afternoon’s activities, which included archery, fire making, and two-person log sawing.
With COVID restrictions limiting the club’s access to the range at times, SLAH had to get creative. As Funk explained, “As COVID allowed, members could go there as individuals or groups. We had a sign up if you wanted to take your household or your family out, there wouldn’t be anyone else there. As soon as we were able to open it up to more, we started regular archery nights on Thursdays. A variety of kids, adults, new members, old members, could go out and get a little instruction, for those who wanted it.”
The club is hopeful that if COVID-19 public health measures allow, more events can be planned. As Funk explained further, “We are looking forward to enjoying the archery range all year. We have some snowshoeing events lined up, some survival exercises, some ice fishing, so if COVID stays the course and we’re able to do those things then we will.”
Stacey George attended the event with her family. As George related, “The wrap up event was a great time for all members. There were many different archery targets set up for everyone to use, the club had bows and arrows for those who didn’t have their own to use. My family had a fun afternoon shooting bows, doing a scavenger hunt, putting our fire-starting skills to use in a game of who could pop popcorn the fastest, and log sawing with a two person saw!” George went on to add, “We are long-time members and have yet to have any SLAH event disappoint us in any way. They always do an amazing job.”
