Apology
In the February 2 edition of The Sioux Lookout Bulletin, a Letter to the Editor titled “Tragedy strikes again”, regarding the tragic housefire in Sandy Lake First Nation which claimed the lives of three children, was allowed to run.
We were informed following its publication of how hurt many people were by its contents.
While we defend people’s right to express their opinion in a respectful manner, the views expressed in the letter were presented insensitively and are those of the author, not The Sioux Lookout Bulletin.
We made an error in judgement and this letter should not have been allowed to run as it was presented.
The unintentional timing of the publication of this letter, before the funeral for the children, was especially egregious and for that, we are sorry.
We wish to offer our most sincere apologies to the family, the community of Sandy Lake First Nation and any of our readers who may have been offended.
We will strive to do better in the future.
