A 20-year-old Sioux Lookout resident is facing multiple charges after members of the Sioux Lookout Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an incident at a local shelter on Fair Street just after 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 8, where police say the individual allegedly assaulted a staff member and attempted to cause damage to the shelter.
“During the arrest, the individual became combative towards officers. When de-escalation tactics failed, a conductive energy weapon was deployed as a last resort to gain physical control of the individual and ensure public safety,” police shared in a Dec. 11 media release.
As a result, the 20-years-old Sioux Lookout resident was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with:
- Assault
- Assault a Peace Officer
- Uttering Threats - Cause Death or Bodily Harm
- Resist Peace Officer
- Mischief - Destroys or Damages Property
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
The accused is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sioux Lookout on December 13.
