Local resident Jenny DeRusha was the lucky winner of this year’s Moonlight Madness draw.
When making a purchase at any one of the participating 13 businesses during Moonlight Madness on Nov. 27, shoppers 18 years of age and older were entered into a draw for a prize basket with gift cards donated by the participating businesses.
DeRusha said she was excited to get the call telling her she was the lucky winner, adding she rarely wins anything.
“I tried to do as many stores as I could that night, just to see what they had. Every store that we stopped at, we bought something,” she said, adding the event, which promoted shopping local, helped her complete her Christmas gift list.
“We have heard back from a few business owners that they were really happy with how the event ran and the support of the community,” shared Chamber of Commerce Executive Assistant Kayleigh Bates.
“Even though it was quite chilly outside, they were glad people respected the amount of customers allowed in their stores.”
“It looked like a lot of people were out making purchases at local businesses,” Bates said of this year’s Moonlight Madness event, which was presented by the Sioux Lookout Chamber of Commerce.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s Moonlight Madness event ran from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., to reduce crowd sizes at any given time.
Congratulating DeRusha, Bates said, “Jenny just won herself and her family a huge shopping spree that will support those businesses who participated in Moonlight Madness.”
