Charge upgraded to Second Degree Murder following death of victim of serious assault

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have upgraded the charge against the accused individual they say was involved in a serious assault in Mishkeegogamang First Nation.
The accused, Jerry Fox, age 32, of Mishkeegogamang First Nation, has now been charged with Second Degree Murder contrary to section 235(1) of the Criminal Code.
According to police, “Shortly after 7:00 a.m. on May 1, 2021, the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service (NAPS) responded to an assault at a Henry Street residence (in Mishkeegogamang First Nation), requesting assistance from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). The victim was air-lifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The victim (17-year-old Lynnora Mikenak, also known as Lynorra Lawson, of Mishkeegogamang First Nation) later succumbed to her injuries.”
The investigation is ongoing with the collaboration of NAPS, the OPP’s Northwest Region Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Services (FIS), under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation
