Clean-up winners
Vanessa Berry and her children Ameera and Brooklyn Swartz accept first price in the Sioux Lookout Chamber of Commerce’s Take Pride Community Wide Competition from Chamber President Katie Positano and Chamber Director Dori Hopko.
Berry and her children, along with fiancée Joe Abela, collected 101 bags of garbage as part of the clean-up competition, which ran from April 25 to May 8.
“We had noticed all the garbage beforehand and we had mentioned we were going to pick up garbage and then we saw this competition and thought, perfect! Our goal was 100 bags and we hit 101,” Berry shared.
Local families and individuals collected 237 bags of garbage from around the community through the competition. Participants had to adhere to provincial COVID-19 measures.
Berry and her family received $500 in gift certificates from local businesses.
Finishing in second place, and receiving $250 in gift certificates from local businesses was the McCord family, Mike, Nancy, Ethan, Christopher and Donovan, who collected 73 bags of garbage.
Chamber President Katie Positano said the competition went very well, adding that another community clean-up effort is being planned for later this year.
