COVID-19 concerns result in Sioux Lookout Triathlon cancellation

Northwestern Ontario’s longest running triathlon has been cancelled for 2020.
This August would have marked the 31st edition of the Sioux Lookout Triathlon, held annually during the Sioux Lookout Blueberry Festival.
“It has been our family tradition for volunteering and participation throughout almost all of those years,” shared Triathlon planning coordinator Cherry Lawrance. “However, preparations require financial commitments that cannot be met if the event does not go ahead. The uncertainties of COVID-19 risks and mitigating restrictions (e.g. masking, safe distancing), especially with the delayed wave to our area, make it understandably impossible to be certain of August 2020 for the Triathlon. Unfortunately, we do not feel able to go ahead this year.”
She noted, “We have a wonderful core of volunteers and a few sponsors who have reliably made this event possible year after year and, hopefully, we will return to the Blueberry Festival next year. There are many families who participate annually, regulars who travel here and describe our event as “the best sprint Triathlon in Northwestern Ontario”. We will all miss it this year for sure.”
