Craft in Public Day
People were invited to bring their chair, projects, and sunscreen and gather together at the Lost Lake Drop-In Centre in Hudson on the afternoon of Aug. 11 to work on craft projects they have on the go during a Craft in Public Day Blueberry Festival event organized by local resident Dorothy Broderick. Crocheted poppies were created by many who attended.
“The drop-in craft in public event was intended to be a low key easy event,” Broderick shared. “Poppy supplies and patterns were available, but that was as an option. I chose Hudson because there is a wide space out front with room to sit if the day was nice out and a spacious indoor space if it wasn’t. There is a small kitchen for snacks, coffee, and tea. It doesn’t need a membership and I do like the drive on the Hudson highway. Also, it has a nice second-hand shop inside for browsing if people wanted to combine shopping and crafting. The poppies that were made will likely be used in Hudson to expand their (Remembrance Day) display. We would also love to expand Sioux’s display. If anyone wants to continue making them.”

During this year's Blueberry Festival, you may have happened upon Blueberry Burl, the crocheted creation of local resident Dorothy Broderick.
People were invited to find Burl, who was hidden in a new location each day of the festival...
