Dick’s Hideaway:
Boomer’s last walk in the woods

Here's our beautiful boy watching over Mary in the hot tub at camp. He was a cheerful and faithful companion for 13 years.
Wednesday he and Grace went for a wander in the woods around camp. Later Gracie returned.
In his last year, Boomer's health and strength weakened. He particularly found walking difficult, and climbing steps almost impossible. His cheer, though, never faltered.
I will remember a thousand wonderful moments with my pal since he was born here in our house beside the lake. He was my hand-picked, my chosen pup from a litter of 10. And a good choice it was. Ol’ Boomer was the most faithful, most cheerful guy I’ve ever lived with.
I think he laid down for a rest, in a small clearing, with lush grass and dozens of little white wildflowers surrounding him. I can picture him smiling at the butterflies and the birds flitting around, close. I can hear the soft tump tump of his wagging tail on the forest earth.
And I will forever be inspired by the remembrance of his daily welcome as soon as I stirred from bed. He always grabbed my robe sleeve at the wrist, smiled, and made a purring sound as he tugged me gently into another day of wonder and adventure.
