Dick's Hideaway:
Check under the wing
Dick MacKenzie - www.dickshideaway.com
We are seeing lots of White Admiral butterflies these days. They are among my favorites, seeming like small pets that follow around and sometimes land on my arms and legs and stay for extended times.
Their coal black wings, traced by a bright white border, accented with white and blue wing tips are attractive and dynamic in flight, though not particularly spectacular.
Yesterday I observed one up close, sitting on my deck rail and slowly pumping its wings like a blacksmith's bellows. Underneath the first vision of black and white was the gorgeous other side, a portrait of grace and beauty I had never noticed before.
I reminded myself to pay special attention to people who come into my life. Most have a side, one of awe, beauty, warmth, and graciousness that doesn't show at first glance.
The goodness is awesome. It's worth checking under the wings.
