Sprinting across a rippling blue lake
I found a sailboat in the woods today, and although I searched the sides and the stern, I couldn’t find a name. I’ll bet years ago she was a beauty with a pretty name like Sarah, or Miss Bette. Maybe Girl From Ipanema.
She lies in a pleasant place, hugged by young trees and bushes that have surrounded her, but miles from the nearest water that would have seemed more in touch with her lifestyle.
I wondered what kind of lover would have jilted her and tossed her aside when she was no longer the sleek and healthy apple of his eye, to lie alone here among the stones and sand.
In her own way, this old sailboat brought some joy to my heart as I admired her grace and dreamed of her younger days, sprinting with the wind across a rippling blue lake, sharing a warm summer day with her dashing handsome partner.
