Easter Egg Hunt at the Cozy Cabin draws a crowd on Good Friday
Hundreds of people visited the Cedar Bay lake shore on April 18 for this year’s Easter Egg Hunt at the Cozy Cabin.
The event celebrated its 10th anniversary this year.
Event organizers Nancy McCord, who is also the Assistant Librarian at the Sioux Lookout Public Library shared, “What began as a collaboration between Friends of Cedar Bay and the 1st Sioux Lookout Scouts 10 years ago has grown into a beloved community tradition. When the pandemic hit in 2020, our family knew we couldn’t let the fun end. Like many, we got creative. That year, we hid painted rocks along the trail to the lakeshore, encouraging families to safely enjoy the outdoors. Participants could send in photos of numbered rocks for entries into an Easter basket draw. We also hid chocolate bunnies for families to discover at their own pace over the weekend, all while keeping safe distances.”
“Over the past three years,” McCord shared, “The event has grown stronger through a partnership with Friends of Cedar Bay and the Sioux Lookout Public Library. Attendance has bounced back, with around 400 adults and children joining the festivities once again. Today, chocolate bunnies are hidden along the trail on the day of the event only, bringing a fresh spark of excitement for participants of all ages. Good Friday has remained the chosen date, as many businesses are closed, giving families the perfect opportunity to spend time together in the great outdoors and appreciate our beautiful surroundings. This year added a special touch with three uniquely painted rocks hidden amongst the eggs, each earning the lucky finder a beautiful stuffed bunny generously donated by Joe Carbone. We also hosted a colouring contest that received about 100 entries, with two winners to be drawn for gift baskets.”
McCord added, “We are incredibly grateful for the continued support from our amazing community. A special thank you goes out to Mike, Gaby and Millie, Dorothy, Mike, Ethan, Christopher, and Donovan for their dedication and hard work year after year. Your efforts are truly appreciated!”
