Easter weekend fun at Cedar Bay
Tim Brody - Editor
A weekend of Easter fun for local families. Hosted by the Friends of Cedar Bay, coordinated by Nancy McCord and sponsored by Westland Insurance, community members were invited to visit Cedar Bay over the Easter long weekend to search for chocolate bunnies and specially painted Easter rocks hidden along the trail to the lakeshore.
McCord and her family, along with several other families who volunteered to help, hid 72 chocolate bunnies along the trail over the course of the weekend. People were asked to take no more than one bunny per family.
McCord painted bunnies on several rocks, which were hidden along the trail. People were asked to take a photo with any rocks they found and submit them to be entered into a random draw for a basket of Easter treats. The lucky winner was a young girl named Jojo.
The Easter weekend event was free and open to the entire community.
McCord shared on Sunday evening, “We ended up having over 660 entries for the gift basket. I would estimate that approximately 100 families participated throughout the weekend! Lots of amazing feedback from families. Many people commented how nice it was to get out and play in the snow and enjoy the trails.”
The event was set up to be as COVID safe as possible, taking place outdoors, over several days, with people able to go out in family groups at a time of their choosing.
“We’ve always loved hosting events, so this is fun for us,” McCord said of coordinating the event and getting help from her family to run it. “It’s fun watching other people have fun, encouraging them to get out and use our beautiful trail system.”
McCord concluded, “We are very happy with the turn out and loved seeing all the big smiles We are looking forward to hosting this event again next year!”
Earth Day, April 22, is fast approaching and according to earthday.org, composting is one of many ways people can make a difference for the environment every day of the year.
