Fallen tree cause of widespread power outage

A widespread power outage which occurred just before 9 p.m. last Thursday evening (Oct. 5) was caused by a tree falling on the transmission line into Sioux Lookout.
Sioux Lookout Hydro President/CEO Deanne Kulchyski informed that the tree came down on the K3D transmission line by the Dryden Ski hill, in Dryden. “The tree took the entire structure down causing the power to go out,” she shared, adding that K3D transmission line is the radial line feeding Sioux Lookout, Hudson, and Lac Seul.
“Hydro One luckily found the cause fairly quickly and worked all night in pretty deplorable conditions to repair it. I really commend them for their hard work and perseverance. They had the power back on at 4:06 a.m,” Kulchyski said.
