The family of the late Emma Meekis are thanking everyone who visited Tim Hortons in Sioux Lookout on June 18 to help celebrate Emma’s life.
Emma’s family and Tim Hortons Sioux Lookout celebrated the anniversary of her passing, June 18, 2022, by giving away gift cards for 400 larges cups of coffee or tea donated by Emma’s family and Sioux Lookout Tim Hortons.
Emma Meekis worked at Tim Hortons in Sioux Lookout from 2015 to 2017. It was her first job and she rose to the position of supervisor. She was joined in working at the restaurant by her mother Joanne Meekis and sisters Veronica Meekis and Montana Meekis.
Emma passed away last year at the age of 23, leaving behind a son, Emmerson Meekis.
Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority, Emma’s last place of employment, donated 20 $25 cards as well, which were given to families who visited Tim Hortons.
The family also gave away raisin and plain Bannock, fried or oven baked.
Emma’s grandmother, Lorna Fiddler, said it was a very successful half day memorial honouring Emma.
“People made donations to us as well and we will be using that towards the cost of a headstone that is on order. We thank everyone that came through the drive through and the ones that came to support us while we were out there in the hot sun. Special thank you to Asmara Aftab (Sioux Lookout Tim Hortons General Manager) without her this wasn’t possible.”
