Festive RIDE numbers released for Sioux Lookout OPP cluster

The Ontario Provincial Police’s (OPP) annual RIDE campaign has wrapped up for another year and the number of impaired charges laid by the Sioux Lookout cluster of the OPP increased from 2022 and 2021.
Police shared in a Jan. 12 media release that, “The Sioux Lookout cluster of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) which includes Sioux Lookout, Pickle Lake, North Caribou Lake First Nation, Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation, and Wapekeka First Nation, laid 21 impaired driving charges against drivers who now face the loss of their driver’s licence, other penalties and a criminal record.”
Sioux Lookout OPP also shared that, “During the 47-day campaign (which ran from Nov. 16, 2023 to Jan. 2, 2024), the Sioux Lookout cluster stopped 1,648 drivers during 787 RIDE initiatives, where officers made full use of their expertise and sophisticated tools to detect and investigate impairment in drivers. The OPP also issued 1 Warn Range Suspension.”
During 2022’s RIDE Campaign the Sioux Lookout cluster of the OPP laid nine impaired charges and issued three warn range suspensions.
During 2021’s RIDE Campaign the Sioux Lookout cluster of the OPP laid 13 impaired charges and didn’t issue any warn range suspensions.
“The OPP thanks all road users and citizens who reported suspected impaired drivers to police and did their part to keep roads safe over the holidays.
“Drivers are reminded that the OPP conducts RIDE events throughout the year, as part of their ongoing commitment to save lives on roads,” Police concluded.
The Sioux Look cluster lead the province in Festive RIDE events this past holiday season.
