First draft of Municipal budget delayed

The first draft of the 2022 Municipal Budget was to have been presented to Sioux Lookout Municipal Council this week. That meeting, which was to have taken place on Dec. 13, is being rescheduled, “to enable staff sufficient time to address a number of challenging factors that will impact the 2022 Municipal Budget,” informed Brian P. MacKinnon, Municipal Manager of Corporate Services/ Municipal Clerk.
“These factors will be outlined in the first budget presentation. The new date has not yet been determined but will be advertised in The Sioux Lookout Bulletin (under Municipal Messages) with the winter Council Meetings in early January,” MacKinnon elaborated.
The first draft of the 2022 Municipal Capital and Operating Budgets will be presented to Council through Zoom. People will be able to view the meeting on the Municipality’s Facebook page.
Municipal Treasurer Carly Collins had previously informed that following the meeting the public will be allowed to make comments on the 1st draft through email: [email protected]. Answers to the public’s questions will then be addressed at the next budget meeting.
Collins previously shared that the Municipality had hoped to approve the budget in January 2022 for formal passing at the February 2022 council meeting. MacKinnon advised that these timelines will be adjusted given that the first presentation will be made in January.
