First Northwest Farmers’ Market of the season this Friday

The Sioux Lookout Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for its first Northwest Farmers’ Market of the season, however thing won’t be business as usual due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Market guidelines have been posted to the Chamber’s Facebook page and guests are asked to review them before attending.
Farmers’ Markets will take place at the Travel Information Centre
10 a.m. to 11 a.m. has been set aside for seniors and persons with disabilities. The market will be open to the general public from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The first market of the season will take place on Friday, June 4.
Kayleigh Bates, Sioux Lookout Chamber of Commerce Executive Assistant / Travel Information Centre Supervisor shared, “We want to make sure people understand the screening information that was shared on our Facebook page, as our priority is the safety of the public. On top of the general information already shared, we want people to understand that:
“Outdoor farmers markets are able to take place under the current restrictions, as they are considered an essential food source provided that the majority of vendors are selling food items.
“The markets this year will look similar to those that took place last year. We will have a single entry point and a single exit point. I know it can be tempting to walk across the grass but, we must keep count of everyone who comes to the market so we ask that market goers please use the proper entrance and exit!
“Until some restrictions begin to lift, we will have to limit the number of people allowed in the market. Be prepared as this may cause some line ups. We encourage the public to send one member per household for now, and try to do your shopping as quickly as you can. We ask that the public follow all directional signage and instructions given by the market staff and vendors. We are here to help!
“The market opens at 10am for a shopping hour dedicated to seniors and persons with disabilities only. There will be designated parking for these market goers, as well as mothers with small children, located in the Travel Info Centre parking lot. General parking is located across the street. Many thanks to the Sunset Inn for allowing market goers to park there on market days!”
“We are excited for the 2021 market season to kick off, and can’t wait to see everyone there (from a safe distance of course). Remember to shop safely while supporting local vendors! To keep up with farmers’ market news, like the Chamber’s Facebook page and follow us on Instagram

Market Dates are scheduled for June 4, June 18, July 2, July 16, July 30, August 13, August 27, September 10, September 24 and October 8.
