2024 Tree of Hearts Campaign
This annual event is back and will run every February as part of the Foundation’s fundraising initiatives. This is a great way and a special month, to reflect on those that are special to us or loved ones that we are missing. We invited people to purchase a light and dedicate it in memory of or in honour of a special person or family member. Lights were on sale starting on February 1st on the Foundation website, in the business community at Cheers, The Red Brick and at The Hub as well as 3 days a week for the month of February at Fresh Market Foods. On Valentines Day, 3 trees were lit located in the courtyard at the hospital, at the ECU and in Centennial Park. In total, this year’s campaign raised almost $1300.00. We would like to thank everyone for their support.
MRI – Transforming Our Regional Health Care, One Image at a Time
March has been a busy month for the Foundation, and the word is out about the fundraising efforts for a new MRI. Sioux Lookout and area are “stepping up to the plate”, feeling a sense that we can all help make a difference in the lives of our communities that use the services of the Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre.
A very generous donation of $25,000 was received from CUPE 4373, representing hospital workers and in their words “We service so many communities, I know for a lot of people its hard to get to Thunder Bay or Winnipeg, so it is needed in the area so that people don’t have to do that travelling”.
Other donations have been received recently by individuals and families who want to make a difference. During March alone, that amount is over $19,825. No amount is too small – Every dollar counts!
Another way to contribute is to host an event, donating the proceeds to the equipment fund ( MRI campaign). Previous contributors to the Foundation’s equipment fund include the Sioux Lookout Home Hardware’s Skip to Equip Classic, the 2 Luncheon fundraisers sponsored by the Forest Inn, Sunset Inn & Suites and Home Hardware, the SLMHC’s Wellness Committee Trivia Night, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 78’s contribution from their Meat Raffle in January and the Sioux Lookout Bombers/Sioux Lookout Rotary Club’s donation from the 50/50 raffle during a Bombers home game in January.
Our sincerest thanks to a most recent community partnership – Sioux Lookout Home Hardware is hosting a monthly draw, with customers being asked to purchase a ballot for $1.00 for their chance to win a prize donated by Home Hardware. 100% of the proceeds each month will be donated to the equipment fund ( MRI ). “We feel it is important to be a partner because we believe in giving back to the community that supports us” said Eric Bortlis, co-owner of Sioux Lookout Home Hardware.
Making a Difference.. Now and for the Future
The Foundation is so appreciative of the growing support and the understanding of Sioux Lookout having such significant lifesaving equipment. MRI Services are becoming a core health care diagnostic asset and improves patient outcomes as a result of more accurate and timelier diagnosis and treatment. MRI will compliment our other diagnostic services such as CT, Ultrasound, Mammography and X-Ray”.
Investing in MRI services at SLMHC will make a tremendous difference in the lives of residents in all of Northwestern Ontario. Your monetary gift is an act of care and compassion to ensure equitable and quality health care is accessible close to home.
How can you help in making the MRI a reality? Please consider a general gift, a monthly gift, in honour of or in memory of gift, host a fundraising event, planned gifts with the Foundation as the beneficiary of stocks, estate or life insurance, leaving a legacy by supporting our community and making a difference.
