K-Net working to connect Sioux organizations with broadband
Imagine a communications system that rivals Dick Tracy comic-strip science fiction. Video conferencing of such high quality that a doctor could be visited via a broadband data network, a lawyer in Sioux Lookout consulted from Fort Severn, a student receive training as a water treatment plant technician without ever leaving North Spirit Lake. That technology exists today – and as a close to home as Eighth and King, site of Sioux Lookout’s K-Net offices, heart of a broadband network currently linking six northern communities.

Smoking ban on the horizon
Smoking in restaurants and bars could be a thing of the past as early as May 1. In a public hearing in front of Town Council at the Feb. 20 meeting, in front of a packed audience of interested residents and business owners, George Hoggarth of the Sioux Lookout Area Heart Health Coalition requested that the Town enact a 100 per cent smoke-free by-law prohibiting smoking in all workplaces.
