Newman announces northern health care bonanza 

The Ontario government will inject $350,000 into Sioux Lookout’s health facilities, announced Northern Development and Mines Minister Dan Newman last Thursday at a press conference.

Ducks Unlimited lays golden egg for Cultural Heritage Interpretive Centre

Ducks Unlimited will contribute an estimated $4000 to the Cultural Heritage Interpretive Centre, a project currently in the works that would augment the Travel Information Centre with a multi-use building able to showcase local culture, history and flora and fauna, said Al Howie, director of public services.

Trillium boom brings big bucks to Sioux’s Big Brothers, Big Sisters

The local chapter of Big Brothers and Big Sisters is getting a $20,000 boost from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, money allocated to get the mentoring program up and running.

Hope blossoms with lone poppy

Norah Love Children’s Centre workers were surprised to find a brilliant red poppy growing in a flower bed outside the building on November 8 despite the cold temperatures and snowfall the previous night. Although the staff planted flowers in the spring, poppies were not included. Staff at the centre suggested the appearance of the plant so close to Remembrance Day could be a good omen.
