Hudson residents said a new hospital shouldn’t be built with a flat roof.  Sioux Lookout residents wondered about job loss.  In Pickle Lake, they asked for their own hospital.  And across the North, First Nations communities were concerned about culturally appropriate care.

First Nations jitters over Musselwhite mine

It’s no secret that the failure of past business negotiations between natives and non-natives has built a climate of apprehension and mistrust.  The atmosphere surrounding the Placer Dome Musselwhite gold mine project at Opapimiskan Lake is no exception.  Though an agreement has been signed by Shibogama and Windigo First Nations councils there are still problems and concerns to be overcome.
