Fun skate in honour/memory of Sierra Hoppe
Community members remembered a young woman who passed away far too soon at a fun skate held in her memory on the afternoon of March 2 at the Sioux Lookout Memorial Arena.
Sierra Hoppe passed away on Feb. 26, 2022, at just 14 years of age.
Sierra’s father Matt Hoppe said his daughter loved hockey. Sierra was in Grade 9 and a member of the Sioux North High School Warriors Girls Hockey Team at the time of her passing.
“I think it was an excellent turnout. It was good to see many friends and family and just people who knew Sierra and just wanted to come and have a cup of coffee or hot chocolate,” Matt Hoppe shared.
“It’s an event we do close to Sierra’s anniversary of when she passed. It gives us an opportunity to just remember her in a positive way and just have a chance for people to come together,” he explained.
This was the second year the Fun Skate honouring/remembering Sierra has taken place.
“Our family is grateful for the community’s compassion and ongoing support for remembering and honouring Sierra,” Matt Hoppe said, adding, “She loved to play hockey and what better way to celebrate and honour her than to have a chance to get together and go for a little skate.”
Visitors to the Fun Skate were encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item for the Sioux Lookout Food Bank. Several boxes of food and $100 cash was raised at the event for the Food Bank.
The Sioux Hudson Entertainment Series will present its sixth show of the 2023-2024 season on Friday, March 22, when it welcomes Motus O Dance Theatre's presentation of "Confessions of a Professional Dancer"...
