Having purchased the winning lottery ticket as a workplace group play, four Sioux Lookout residents, Rick Young, Meredith Culham, Jody Morin, and Aaron Haagsma took home the jackpot of $40,268 in the March 10 Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre (SLMHC) Foundation 50/50 draw.
Morin said, “It’s a workplace winning. We thought it was a good idea to pool our money in a workplace environment. People buy lotto tickets all the time and this keeps in the community.” He added, “It’s just a nice little bright light in this dark time really right now. It’s so surreal, winning this kind of money, it’s great.” Young, who was still coming to terms with winning, said, “It hasn’t sunk in yet. Probably save it up to spoil ourselves for a nice trip, when we can travel.”
SLMHC Foundation Treasurer Rita Demetzer shared that she was happy with the draw, the fourth undertaken by the Foundation, and the participation it received. She said, “It’s really nice to see that a group of people won and is not something that occurred to me, but people do it with regular lottery tickets. So, I think this is a wonderful way for people to get an increased chance of winning, so, it’s wonderful. Certainly, always, always appreciative of everybody who’s supporting the Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre Foundation.”
