Keewatin-Patricia District School Board responds to PowerSchool data breach

The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board (KPDSB) is responding to a recent cyber incident involving PowerSchool, a platform widely used by school boards across North America to manage student information.
On January 7, 2025, PowerSchool notified KPDSB of a data breach that occurred between December 22 and 28, 2024. KPDSB’s cybersecurity team immediately implemented its response plan, ensuring the continued security of its systems.
Together with PowerSchool, KPDSB is conducting a thorough investigation to determine the scope of the breach and identify any personal information that may have been affected. PowerSchool has assured KPDSB that the data accessed by an unauthorized user has been deleted and was not shared or posted online. The Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario (IPC) has been informed of this breach.
At this time, no action is required by KPDSB staff or families. Should the investigation reveal that personal information was impacted, KPDSB will notify affected individuals.
