Letter To The Editor:
DO YOU DARE????
The Sioux Lookout Seniors Activity Centre is hosting a 55+ games during the Blueberry Festival. There will be events from Sunday August 4th until Sunday August 11th.
“Athletes” must be in their 55th year or older to participate. If you meet this criterion, you can enter.
The events, dates and times are listed in the Official Blueberry Festival booklet. There will be a $5.00 entry fee for each event. These games are similar to the Olympics. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place athletes will be presented with gold, silver and bronze medals at the end of that day’s event.
Scheduled events will be Tennis, Pickle Ball (doubles), Bocce (teams of 4), Cribbage (singles and doubles) and a Predicted Walk.
The Predicted Walk will be a featured event in these games. A 1.6 km track will be mapped out on the walking trail. This is NOT a race. Participants will start at the Tourist Information Centre after predicting how long it will take them to complete the course. Winners will be those who completed the walk closest to their prediction.
We are hoping for a large participation of 55 + entries for the events. You do NOT have to be a member of the Centre so all visitors to Sioux Lookout are welcome.
These games can help prepare you for next year’s District 1A Ontario Seniors Games to be held in Dryden in June 2020.
Wally Glena is spearheading these games. If you are willing to volunteer (no need to be 55) for an event to assist with scorekeeping of the games or timing the predicted walk, please contact him at 737-3557 or email at [email protected].
Respectfully submitted, Anne Saltel
