Letter to the Editor:
Enough is enough
I would like to start off by saying that I hope I have been a courteous and considerate driver for many years. I also spend a lot of my time walking and I would like to think I am a courteous walker as well. What does that mean... well when I come up to the Tim Horton’s corner I often let a lot of cars go through before hitting the crosswalk button because most are in a real hurry and I’m not.
There are a lot of courteous drivers in town as some slow down or stop before you even hit the button... or they slow down and stop as they are coming around the Wellington - Front street corner as it is hard to see the YIELD between the two trees growing up on the sidewalk. Their efforts are appreciated. I know the town has done traffic studies in the area, the OPP sometimes monitors the area as it is not a stop light area and even the flashing light reminds you that cars may not slow down so be careful.
There is a lot of traffic on Wellington and the Wellington - Fifth Ave corner is dangerous for walkers and after almost being hit again crossing at the corner this weekend, enough is enough. Sometime vehicles turning on to Wellington will wait until you are part way across the road and then go behind you... this weekend some driver went in front of me as I had the flashing lights going before I even started across the road and I was part way through the crosswalk… it was scary. I am not the only walker that has been almost hit more than once at that corner, so unless you are an OPP, Ambulance or fire truck with flashing lights become a courteous driver and aware of your surroundings and thank you to those careful drivers out there.
