Letter to the Editor:
Friends of Cedar Bay acknowledge the work of Val Mascotto
Friends of Cedar Bay wishes to acknowledge the many years of volunteer support of Cedar Bay by Valerie Mascotto who passed away in Sault Ste Marie on June 26. Val and her late husband, Elso, were ardent supporters of Cedar Bay since its early days in the 1980s. In 2006 Val worked hard to garner public support for Cedar Bay's revitalization and, with Elso, worked as a tireless volunteer until 2017.
Val and Elso supported Cedar Bay in the most modest and thankless of ways: They could regularly be seen driving behind the Friends of Cedar Bay hay wagon cleaning up after the horses, Val selling refreshments at every event and both helping out daily at the barn. For 11 years she was a wise behind the scenes counsel to Friends of Cedar Bay Board most notably raising $3,000 towards the building of the pavilion through her penny collection campaign. Our thanks go out to Val for all her support, and we send sincere condolences to her family.
