Letter to the Editor
Importance of clarity
First of all, I would like to express my gratitude for the time and effort our local newspaper (Tim Brody) invested in posing a good cross-section of questions to the candidates for our next municipal council.
As well, I recognize the courage of those who submitted their name to run for such a position.
Candidate responses to these specific questions can offer the voting public a guide for whom to choose.
One should wonder about those who don’t answer these questions or answer the questions poorly. Will they be that effective on council?
Which of the candidates talk about openness and accountability? Accountability not only within the municipal governance structure, but also providing important and relevant updates to the interested public on an ongoing basis. Which candidates are presenting themselves in this fashion?
What serious issues facing our community do candidates discuss (if any at all - and none, why not?) ? And how do they intend to deal with them? A telling sign of competency, and their actual interest in recognizing and dealing with them.
Generalized answers and “feel good” responses are pablum, in my opinion. We should be looking for substance.
Tonight’s public forum (October 12th, 6:30 at the Legion) will provide those attending another glimpse for whom to vote.
Seriously,
Michael Quince,
concerned citizen
