Letter to the Editor:
Town Beach fiasco
Boondoggle is a word that describes this new waterfront development at the town beach.
To me, it’s an embarrassment.
Three small chicken coop style structures for three and a half million dollars? No pavilion shelter as originally proposed?
But oh, there’s a floating dock system out there in left field! Why out there I have yet to find an answer.
Beach contamination is a huge controversial issue that will not go away, despite all the expense and political posturing.
Then there’s the three years (three lost summers) it has taken to get to this point. Plenty of inactivity and standing around (and don’t blame covid for that part). Now, imagine the consulting fees accumulated over time!
Question: why is the playground put on the street side of the toilets?
My answer: Because it is safer to play near the parking lot than play on the contaminated beach!
Seemingly when you don’t test for the presence of dioxins.....
I have to apologize for being so cynical.
However, quality public input, especially at the March, 2018 open meeting, has been almost fully ignored, much to the detriment of this project, and to our community, in my opinion.
......and so it goes !
