Letter to the Editor:
Wellington, First roundabout
As a homeowner on the corner of the proposed roundabout, that was forced upon us. No property owner adjacent to this project was advised in writing or allowed to attend the impact statement meeting for the project. I can say I am not happy about having the township literally steal my property to incorporate into a road project that was required and conditional for the development of the Hillcrest Project.
We had no rights, Doug Lawrance decided that he could just remove our rights to further this development in its progress.
This Hillcrest Project, which will require “blasting” into the substrates, can and likely will cause shifting that cause our basement walls to crack and allow flooding and other damages like wall shifts, windows cracking, doorway shifting etc.
This project, that supposedly include a clinic, administration, retail, and even a gas bar will apparently need new roadways to deal with the vehicle traffic is coming at the expense of all adjacent homeowners and business owners to the project.
No one asked our opinions. No one did a site impact evaluation. It seems our mayor in the sake of getting brownie points for new developments to the town sold out the residents.
Of course, all the local businesses involved in this project will make money… but what happens to the 60 and 70-year-old residents and our pets during all this? We lose part of our property… get to live with years of disruption due to the noise and can even lose our home if the blasting and drilling can a substrate shift.
And in the meantime, the foot traffic that will short cut over my yard to get downtown will further disrupt and destroy my property.
