Obituary - Florence Makar (nee Leschasin)
October 26, 1927 - January 2, 2020
Florence Makar (nee Leschasin) was born in Rossburn, Manitoba on October 26, 1927. Florence passed on January 2, 2020. She was the youngest of five children born to John and Anna Leschasin and was raised on a farm in Petlura, Manitoba.
Florence later married Mike Makar on June 26th, 1948. They farmed in the Petlura area until 1957 when they moved to Hudson, Ontario with two children, Evangeline and David. Florence was a homemaker supreme. Her skills as an excellent cook, seamstress, gardener and mother, were a few of her many talents. In time she went to work part time at the Post Office and eventually a full time job at the Hudson’s Bay Store. She worked for more than 20 years as a clerk and occasionally as a Manager of the store.
Florence and Mike acquired a cottage on Big Vermillion Lake and this became a busy hub of family activity. Family was always the most important thing to her. Her children, four grandchildren and six great-grand children were the focus of her life.
Florence was predeceased by Mike Makar, her husband of 59 years. She is survived by children Evangeline (Ross) MacMillan and David (Julie) Makar. Grandchildren Cara (Rob van de Pol) MacMillan, Reed (Cristin McCormick) MacMillan, Beth (Andrew Verescak) MacMillan, Michael (Lexie) Makar and six great-grand children: Joshua, Frieda, Audrey, Shea, Penelope and Shepard. A Memorial Service was held at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday January 7, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Stephen Chilaka officiating. Interment of ashes to follow at a later date. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society through the Sioux Lookout Funeral Home, Box 1449, Sioux Lookout Ontario P8T 1B9.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Sioux Towers for the excellent care and support. Thank you to the emergency hospital staff at Meno Ya Win Health Centre.
