Sylvia Klan
August 1, 1927 - October 24, 2023
Sylvia passed away peacefully at the age of 96. She was a lifelong resident of Sioux Lookout and was born in the family home on Queen St. Sylvia planned on attending university and was interested in becoming a dietician but her mother became ill so she stayed home to help out. She later attended business college in Winnipeg and spent 42 years working for the department of Lands and Forests (MNRF). She was predeceased by parents Fanny and Otto Kokkarinen and brother Sulo who passed away at the age of 6. She was also predeceased by husband Henry (Hank) of 64 years. She was very proud of her Finnish heritage and one of her life highlights was a trip to Finland to visit family. She is survived by son Brian (Colleen) and grandchildren Katrina and Kevin and great grandchildren Francis, Anderson, and Lilly. Sylvia loved to bake and to do all sorts of crafts. Over the years she had crocheted over 250 hats for the newborns at the Sioux Lookout hospital.
We would like to thank the support staff at Sioux Towers and all those who cared for her at the Sioux Lookout Meno Ya win Hospital who were all so kind and caring.
Cremation has taken place, and a service will be held at St Andrew’s United Church Monday November 6 at 11:00 with interment of ashes at a later date.
