Obituary - Mrs. Eva Kakepetum (Nee McCouan)
June 29, 1952 - January 10, 2021
Mrs. Eva Kakepetum (Nee McCouan) age 68 years, passed away into her eternal rest at TBRHSC on January 10, 2021. Born in 1952 in Chapleau ON, Eva was raised in Schreiber and Windsor graduating from St. Clair College. She was an effective addictions and mental health counsellor. She met her husband Abe in Toronto, marrying in 1998 into a large family with five children. They lived together in the communities of Sioux Lookout and Thunder Bay. Eva was passionate about her Metis heritage and was actively involved in promoting mental health as an elder at DFC and in facilitating healing circles for residential school survivors. Her faith shone in everything. She authored three books. Eva was an active member at St. Paul’s Anglican Church volunteering with the music, hospitality team and the advisory board.
Eva will be missed and fondly remembered by Kakepetum family children: Conroy, Marlene, Israel, Tammy and Jennifer (Alvin), 19 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren as well as the McCouan family cousins: the Simard’s, the Blackburn’s and the McLay’s.
Eva was predeceased by her beloved husband Abe and parents Edna and Earl McCouan.
Cremation has taken place. Due to the current gathering restrictions, a celebration of Eva’s life will be held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Thunder Bay, at a later date with interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens next to her husband.
Thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of unit 2A at the hospital, St. Elizabeth home care, and the entire palliative team during Eva’s final illness. Thanks to Archdeacon Deborah Kraft for her pastoral care.
