This holiday season, Morgan Fuels and The Sioux Lookout Bulletin partnered to encourage people to get into the festive spirit with their Light Up Christmas draw. Open to communities in The Sioux Lookout Bulletin’s newspaper distribution area, participants were encouraged to decorate their homes and businesses and register for free with Morgan Fuels by December 17, to take part. Morgan Fuels shared with The Bulletin that they support and sponsor several community events each year, however, several events were cancelled due to COVID this year. “So we looked to see what could we do that would respect social distancing and a large number of people could participate in. It seemed like more people were putting up lights this year so why not do something with that.”
Morgan Fuels shared, “We knew The Bulletin always had pictures showcasing the efforts of the community, so it provided an opportunity to partner with them and expand on what was in place.” They further added that they gave away 25 gift certificates from local Sioux Lookout businesses. “The gift certificates were a way of encouraging people to shop local.”
Sioux Lookout Bulletin Editor Tim Brody commented, “We were very pleased to partner with Morgan Fuels on this initiative. 2020 has been a challenging year, to put it mildly, and we too noticed people were getting into the holiday spirit early this year. When Morgan Fuels approached us about partnering to spread and encourage festive cheer, we were delighted to help out.”
With a separate draw for businesses, the announcement of the winners did not involve any judging, simply random draws. Morgan Fuels shared their satisfaction with this year’s event, with hopes to grow bigger next year. Random pictures of sites are published in this week’s publication of The Bulletin and on Morgan Fuels’ Facebook page. Morgan Fuels concluded, “Stay safe. Christmas is an important time of year for many people. An opportunity to reflect and look forward to the next year. We all need to work together this year to lower the possible spread of COVID.”
