Last Friday’s Morgan Fuels Bombers Golf Classic at the Sioux Lookout Golf and Curling Club came down to a playoff for first and second place.
After 18 holes of play “The Bogeymen” (Whitney Van Horne, Andy Brunton, Tyler Baker, and Braeden Seagris) finished the tournament tied for first place at 10 under par with “Da Boys” (Matt Gain, Clint Lorteau, Jason Suprovich and Mike Esposito).
After playing their way down Hole 1, Andy Brunton sank the winning putt to make “The Bogeymen” tournament champions.
“It was unreal. Honestly, I couldn’t have dreamt of a better ending to the tournament for sure,” Brunton shared.
“We love going to the games,” Brunton added. “We try to go to every home game that we can and this is just another step off of that. Anything to do with a hockey team in Sioux Lookout we want to be a part of.”
Teammate Tyler Baker commented, “We had a good day, we pulled our team together and it was a fun event. We had a good time.”
“Great local event. Great way to bring the community together,” he added.
Matt Gain of “Da Boys” shared, “It was a great day. We actually thought the weather was going to be worse than it was. To see everyone out for such a good cause, the Bombers, they create a lot of energy in the town so it’s nice to support and we had a great group. We had a good battle all day long, nothing but a good day on the golf course.”
Finishing in third place was “The Fore Amigos” (Dave Kulchyski, Jamie Wisnoski, Mitch Wills and Terry Baker).
Twenty-eight teams braved cool, rainy weather during the four-person modified Texas scramble format tournament.
Bombers General Manager Austen Hoey commented, “Even in the face of terrible conditions in terms of weather, everybody showed up, nobody no showed because it was raining. Everyone for the most part I think, had a great time and that realistically is what today is about.”
This was the fourth year the tournament, a fundraiser for the team, has taken place and Hoey said he believes the Bombers have cemented themselves as a tournament people look forward to each year.
Bombers President Joe Cassidy said the support from the community was fantastic, “How quickly we filled up this year, how fast sponsors came on board… its nice in the middle of summer, to away from the rink, do something to support the team.”
Hoey and Cassidy thanked all of the participants in this year’s tournament and everyone who supported the event.
