Move to Stage Two of provincial reopening means a busy time for the Recreation Centre

As Ontario moves into Step Two of the province’s Roadmap to Reopen, the Municipality of Sioux Lookout is advising residents of how the changes will impact Municipal services and buildings.
These Municipal facilities will remain CLOSED to the public until we enter Step 3:
- The Municipal Office
- The Public Works Garage
- The Fire Hall
- The Airport Administration Building
The Municipality had previously informed that these buildings would reopen at Step Two. The Municipality said of the change, “The situation is fluid, and after further deliberation, we have decided it is in the best interests of the public and our staff to wait until Step 3.”
The Municipality shared that, “All other Municipal facilities are open, following the rules put in place by the Province of Ontario regarding physical distancing, sanitization, and the wearing of face masks. This includes the Hidden Lake Landfill, Airport Terminal Building, Biidaaban and Sioux Mountain Children’s Centres, bike and skate parks, as well as the ball diamonds, soccer fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, and bocce courts.”
Moving to Step Two will mean busy days for the Recreation Centre. Upcoming events include:
- Minor sports registration will be available starting Monday, June 28th
- Monday, June 28th and Tuesday, June 29th registration will be in the Rec Centre parking lot (weather permitting)
- Wednesday, June 30th and Friday, July 2nd registration will be in the penalty box of the Arena. Enter in the back lane.
- Minor league sports will start the week of July 5th.
- Minor soccer and baseball start Monday, July 5th.
- Minor volleyball starts Tuesday, July 6th.
All participants who have pre-registered for minor sports must attend the Recreation Centre for full registration
People are asked to call the Front Desk at 737-1994 if they have any questions about minor sports registration or start dates.
The Municipality also informed that fire permits became available for sale at the Recreation Centre starting Monday, June 28th. Fire permit and registration payments may be paid by cash or cheque at this time. Cheques should be made payable to the Municipality of Sioux Lookout.
“The Municipality of Sioux Lookout thanks you for your continued patience as we work towards reopening all facilities once the Province enters Step 3. We encourage you to get vaccinated for everyone’s protection – and thank everyone who has already been vaccinated for doing their part. The vaccination rates in the Sioux Lookout Health Hub have been fantastic!”
