Weather permitting, the Municipality of Sioux Lookout is aiming to open its outdoor rinks for the third or fourth week of January.
Municipal Recreation and Culture Department Manager Rony Chakraborty shared, “With the fluctuation in weather conditions, setting up the outdoor rinks has been particularly challenging this year. There are two outdoor rinks that are maintained by the Recreation and Culture Department – one in Hudson (Ball Diamonds) and the other one is on Third Avenue Outdoor Recreation Complex. The one in Sioux Lookout is lighted at night. Users normally use the covered dug-outs to put on the skates, warmup and take rest.”
Chakraborty further stated, “We understand how ardently kids and families wait to use the outdoor rinks during the winter and we do not want them to lose out on their fun. So, we are offering a family skate night at no charge to come and enjoy skating on January 13th from 7:30 P.M. to 9:30 P.M. We welcome everyone to come and join.”
