Municipality of Sioux Lookout addresses shutdown extension

The Municipality of Sioux Lookout is advising residents of how the shutdown extension in Northern Ontario announced by the Provincial Government on Jan. 7 will impact municipal operations.
According to the Municipality, all Municipal facilities (including the Recreation Centre and Memorial Arena) will continue to be closed to walk-in traffic, with a few exceptions.
The Sioux Lookout Airport Terminal Building, Hidden Lake Landfill Site (Dump), and Biidaaban and Sioux Mountain Children’s Centres will continue to be open to the public, along with their accompanying services.
The Municipally operated outdoor rinks in Sioux Lookout and Hudson will continue to stay closed.
“The Municipality continues to operate and provide all essential services, and can be reached via telephone or email. Staff will continue to work to provide key services to the public. This closure will last through January 24, 2021. If the Provincial Government extends the “shutdown period” for Northern Ontario beyond January 23rd, further information will be communicated to the public,” the Municipality of Sioux Lookout informed.
“Additionally, please note that all remittances due to the Municipality (utilities, taxes, etc.) will remain payable on their due dates. Payments may be made via online banking (for utilities), regular mail, or by using the Municipal Office drop-box, located outside of the main entrance of 25 Fifth Avenue. Additionally, for parking tickets, please remit payment via regular post, or drop-off payment with cash at the drop-box.
“The one exception to this requirement is the payment of annual pet registration renewals – these would normally be due at the end of January, however, a one-month extension has been granted for this specific payment only. Annual Pet Registration Renewals will now be due on February 26, 2021,” the Municipality of Sioux Lookout further informed.
Municipal staff will continue to monitor and respond to inquiries and concerns from the public.
