The Municipality of Sioux Lookout’s P.R.O Kids program is one of thirteen programs throughout the region which will benefit from 2023 “Child Poverty Reduction Reinvestment Funding” (CPRRF) awarded by the Kenora District Services Board (KDSB).
The KDSB shared in a May 29 media release, “At its May 2023 Board Meeting, the Kenora District Services Board (KDSB) awarded its 2023 “Child Poverty Reduction Reinvestment Funding” (CPRRF) to community-led initiatives across the District of Kenora. CPRRF funding opportunity is provided solely by the Municipalities and Unincorporated Territories that comprise the KDSB’s Board
“The Board of Directors of the KDSB fundamentally believes that all children need and deserve equal access to organized sports, recreation, community activities, and food security.”
“2023 community partner applications demonstrated the growing food insecurities faced by families and children and the increasing need for affordable recreation opportunities for families in the District. The Board remains committed to ensuring that children and youth in our communities have equal and equitable opportunities to access these beneficial programs and services,” said Barry Baltessen, Board Chair of the KDSB.
The KDSB awarded a total of $183,395 in CPRRF funding, with $9500 going to P.R.O Kids in Sioux Lookout.
“Through the CPRRF, the KDSB looks forward to working together with these key community partners this year, and the continued work of supporting community organizations in implementing programs that increase the overall well-being and participation opportunities for children and youth in the District of Kenora,” the KDSB concluded.
The Municipality of Sioux Lookout shares on its website about P.R.O Kids (Positive Recreation Opportunities for Kids), “Recreation and social interaction are critical to a child’s development. The opportunity to lead, be part of a team or learn a new skill as a child or youth can have an extremely significant impact on a person’s life.
“P.R.O kids supports the participation of eligible children and youth 18 years of age and under in sports, arts, recreational or cultural activities of their choice with financial assistance.
