Municipality to receive $1,495,100 in OMPF funding

The Ontario government announced 2022 Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund (OMPF) funding allocations on Oct. 21 and the Municipality of Sioux Lookout will be receiving $1,495,100, the equivalent of $590 per household. This is the Province’s main general assistance grant to municipalities.
Municipal Treasurer Carly Collins shared, “The Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund (OMPF) primarily supports northern and rural municipalities across the province. Its objectives are to:
- recognize the challenges of northern and rural municipalities, while targeting funding to those with more challenging fiscal circumstances;
- support areas with limited property assessment; and
- assist municipalities that are adjusting to year-over-year funding changes.”
She explained, “This is the only unconditional grant that municipalities receive from the Province on a regular basis. While the OMPF contribution earmarked for Sioux Lookout in 2022 is greater than in 2021, it is still less than what the Municipality has received in prior years. The OMPF funding is one of the sources of funding the annual budget, in addition to property taxation, user fees, transfers from reserves, and other government funding.”
“Our government recognizes the importance of the OMPF to communities across the province, and we’ve heard loud and clear what our municipal partners are looking for,” said Peter Bethlenfalvy, Minister of Finance, in an Oct. 21 news release. “We are committed to making sure the OMPF continues to meet the needs of local communities, by providing stable financial support that they can count on.”
The OMPF supports 389 municipalities across the province.
