Eight firearms, cocaine seized in Bearskin Lake First Nation
Bearskin Lake, ON – Police arrested four people after seizing cocaine and eight firearms in Bearskin Lake First Nation Tuesday.
Members of the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service’s Intelligence Unit, with assistance from the NAPS Emergency Response Team, OPP, and Lac Seul Police Service’s K9 Unit, executed two search warrants in the community of Bearskin Lake First Nation in the morning hours of Tuesday, March 4.
The search warrants were obtained as a result of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking activity within the community of Bearskin Lake First Nation. The investigation included involvement from NAPS officers working from that community detachment.
As a result of the searches, police located and seized eight firearms, brass knuckles, a quantity of suspected cocaine, more than $9,500 CAD in cash, and paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking.
A 32-year-old female from Bearskin Lake First Nation is charged with:
- Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm x 8
- Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon
A 54-year-old male form Bearskin Lake First Nation is charged with:
- Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm x 8
- Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon
A 44-year-old male from Bearskin Lake First Nation is charged with:
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Careless Storage of a Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
A 40-year-old female from Bearskin Lake First Nation is charged with:
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Careless Storage of a Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
All accused have since been released from police custody with conditions and future court appearance dates.
The names of accused individuals are withheld until the charges against them have been formally sworn before the courts.
