New health centre opens in Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation

Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation is celebrating the opening of their new health centre.
“Today (April 17) marks a day of great celebration for Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation,” commented Kenora MP Bob Nault. “This new health centre will help improve the well-being of community members by providing accessible, culturally appropriate health services and mental health care.”
A press release provided by Nault informed, “The health centre will improve access to quality primary health care in the community and will support a range of services and programs related to public health and dental care, including children’s oral health. It also includes additional office space that will improve delivery of programs and services such as mental health initiatives.”
An investment of $18.5 million from Indigenous Services Canada through the First Nation and Inuit Health Branch Social Infrastructure Funding made the new health centre a reality.
“The grand opening of this health centre is an important milestone for our community in improving access to health care. This facility will provide a safe and functional space to serve our community members, staff and other health professionals. We are excited to provide quality services within our community,” shared Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation Chief Donald Ian Morris.
Minister of Indigenous Services Seamus O’Regan stated, “Congratulations to Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation on the grand opening of your new health centre. The Government of Canada remains committed to improving access to health services in First Nation communities by investing in health infrastructure. This new facility will improve the quality of health services to achieve better health outcomes and support the well-being of families.”
“Regardless of where you live, regardless of how remote or rural, everyone deserves access to quality healthcare services, so today is a significant milestone,” concluded Nault. “Healthy families are happy families, so this is a great achievement for the whole community.”
