NWHU provides information on cloth masks

The Northwestern Health Unit’s (NWHU) Acting Medical Officer of Health has commented on the use of cloth masks during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Ian Gemmill shared with The Bulletin that, that “masks prevent us from ‘sharing’ COVID (germs),” however Gemmill said they must be used properly.
“If people are frequently bringing their hands to their face to adjust the mask, which increases the risk of transmission, it would be worse than not wearing a mask.  The best forms of protection continue to be distancing and proper hand hygiene,” he added.
The health unit shared that cloth masks will “protect others from your germs” and “When going out for groceries and essentials, the mask may offer some protection when you cannot keep six feet from others.”
Medical masks, the health unit shared, are needed by health care workers.
