Ontario Provincial Police in Sioux Lookout are continuing their search for a suspect they say was involved in what is being described as a “weapons incident”, which took place in Sioux Lookout on the afternoon of Aug. 16 on Millar Crescent.
The investigation into the incident resulted in the temporary closure of Seventh Avenue between Meno Ya Win Way and Carlbom Drive.
Police had requested people avoid the area that afternoon but have maintained there is no threat to public safety.
“While this incident did involve a weapon, investigators believe this to be a targeted incident. Members of the public are reminded that they should remain vigilant and always prioritize their personal safety,” noted Provincial Constable Graeme Desjarlais in responding to questions from The Bulletin.
On Aug. 17 on the Ontario Provincial Police – North West Region Facebook page, police shared photos of a suspect, which they appealed to the public for help in identifying.
Commenting on the progress of their search for this individual, Desjarlais shared with The Bulletin, “At this time, the OPP continues to actively search for the individual involved in this isolated incident. The North West Crime Unit is working in partnership with the Emergency Response Team (ERT), Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), Regional Support Team (RST), Forensic Identification Services (FIS), Major Case Investigations Team (MCIT) and Canine Unit (K9).”
Few details related to the incident have been released. Desjarlais shared, “To preserve the integrity of the investigation, I am unable to share specific investigative techniques. However, I can assure you that the OPP is fully committed to ensuring public safety and will employ all necessary resources to conduct a thorough investigation.”
He added, “The investigation remains ongoing, and no further details will be released at this time.”
Police have shared that no one was injured in the incident.
