OPP, NAPS lay murder charge in Slate Falls First Nation

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), in partnership with the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service (NAPS), have laid a murder charge related to a death in Slate Falls First Nation.
Police shared that on April 9, members of the OPP Forensic Identification Services, Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), Regional Support Team, Major Crime Investigation Team and Northwest Region Crime Unit attended Slate Falls First Nation to assist NAPS after an individual was pronounced deceased.
The victim has been identified as David Brown, 32, of Wapekeka First Nation.
As a result of the investigation, Amber Carpenter, 22, of Slate Falls First Nation was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder contrary to Section 235 (1) of the Criminal Code.
Police shared that the investigation is ongoing and is being conducted under the direction of the CIB, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. Police also shared that a post-mortem examination will be conducted at a later date at the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service in Toronto to confirm the cause of death.
