OPP Report:
Sioux Lookout OPP positive ticketing program in effect
Demonstrating positive behaviour is the "cool" thing to do in Sioux Lookout this summer.
The Sioux Lookout Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are proud to be partnering once again with Fresh Market Foods for this year's positive ticketing program. As of today (June 11), Sioux Lookout OPP officers will be on patrol armed with a new 'ticket book' for youth. If an officer observes a youth showcasing positive behavior in their community, the youth may receive a thank you in the form of a ticket for a jumbo Mr. Freeze.
Although the tickets are primarily rewarding youth demonstrating safe bicycle riding skills, officers may also award a "positive ticket" for a number of responsible or caring behaviours. These may include: youth participating in community activities, deterring crime, helping others in need, or otherwise demonstrating leadership and/or community pride.
The intention of the positive ticketing program is to ensure that the "positive tickets" legitimately reinforce the positive behaviour exhibited by a youth, by offering a reward. The program serves to initiate relationships between youth, their communities and local businesses, to foster a new generation of civic-minded citizens.
In addition to its outstanding public awareness, education and community engagement benefits, the personal impact achieved one youth at a time, by an OPP officer issuing a positive ticket to a child, remains priceless.
